KVIP is a non-profit radio ministry based in Redding, California dedicated to the advancement of the Gospel. In the late 1960s, a group of Christians saw the need for Christian radio is northern California. After much prayer and planning, they founded KVIP in 1970, and Christian programming was heard at AM 540.
In 1975, KVIP added a second Christian station in Redding: FM 98.1. The new frequency allowed us to stay on the air 24 hours for the first time. Three other full-power stations were also added: KMWR in Brookings, Oregon, KGRV in Winston, Oregon, and KNDZ in McKinleyville, California. We've also added dozens of translators, spreading Christian radio throughout northern California, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona. Today, we service over 150 distinct communities. With the addition of online streaming in the early 2000s, our potential audience is even larger with listeners calling in from Hawaii, American Samoa, and Spain.
